So many times when we put the word Architect in Google we get a lot of sites related to IT or computer architecture. I think a global campaign should be initiated by the architects to restrict the use of title Architect for architectural professionals and to use the traditional meaning of Architect. It would be beneficial for both Architectural professionals and IT professionals to avoid confusion between the two.
First we must clarify what architect means. Although it is more common to refer to "architect" as one who engages in design in the construct field, the more formal definition is: an architect is a person who designs, guides and plans an undertaking (even in IT).
I am educated both in Civil and Computer Engineering, so I can relate to using the term "architect" in both construction and IT. In fact, "Computer Architecture" is a subject one must take when one is pursuing IT, Computer Science or Computer Engineering degree.
In the olden days, architect is undoubtedly a construction professional. But, we are in the computer age now.
Needless to say, I do agree in the use of the term "architect" in IT industry. However, Companies who are hiring must therefore be more specific on what type of architect do they need.
It could be a bit of a challenge but they definitely have their relevance within the domain of their expertise. Apparently, the IT architects are here to stay. I guess we'd have to spend more time to clarify the expertise of architects in the future.
The Architect now a days can be in the digital world designing cloud systems and network infrastructure same as the architect that we all know and it has been used as a term by many renowned IT companies such as CISCO, CompTIA, and microsfot.
definitely!it''s very confusing and annoying
I COMPLETELY AGREE WITH THIS. EVERY TIME YOU REGISTER INTO ANY JOB PORTAL, INSPITE OF HAVING THE CV ATTACHED I STILL GET IT RELATED JOBS IN MY MAIL INSTEAD OF ARCHITECTURE JOBS. IT KILLS MY TIME HAVING TO READ THROUGH ADS THAT DO NOT RELATE TO MY PROFESSION. IT WOULD BE NICE TO REMAIN AS ARCHITECT, IT PROFESSIONALS, DOCTORS ENGINEERS ETC. TO AVOID CONFUSION.
the problem is even bigger with french name for interior-designer, its called "architecte d'interieur", or "interior architect", and this leads to confiusion and many are asking if i'm an "interior architect" or "exterior architect"!!
