Teacher needs to be interested in teaching English - if the teacher does not appear to be interested, students will not be interested.
Creative structure of lessons - devise lessons where key skills are being taught but are visually and audibly interesting to students. E.g. use tv programmes which demonstrate the lesson to be learnt. Use audio equipment to encourage students to listen to the sounds of words.
Encourage student participation as much as possible.
Bite-sized slots when giving new pieces of information - many students have short attention spans when learning something new for the first time. Then re-introduce the new item again but in a different format.
Aim for students to enjoy the process rather than seeing the learning process as a chore. It is a life learning skill, one to be added to their overall knowledge and experience.
