Generally yes.
Although microsoft has done some steps towards security still not enough.
Linux gives you the tools and access to core modules to make your server as secure as you can.
This means that is up to your linux administrator to make it so.
Remember though that computer security is not just a selection between OS's, since many violations come from inside not outside and from misconfigurations of database privileges, both of these security violations are independent of LInux or Windows OS.
So in conclusion, Linux is better BUT you have to be careful.
Hope this helps

Hi Sreenath, When you connect your machine to the network you are vulnerable to outsider attacks, whether its Linux, Mac or Windows.
There was notion "Linux / Mac is100% secure than windows".
I dont fully agree with it.
There are few reasons why linux / mac show better security.
- Few people know whether linux / mac got compromised or attacked.
Simply ask yourself.
How do you know whether my linux machine got compromised or not? How many of the layman users know the default process and listing the ports they occupying and make it secure.
- Linux is open source, if any new vulnerability found, with in couple of hours or a day, they relase security patches for the bug.
So the problem got fixed.
But the questions is how many of you people install the security updates! - windows is closed one, the priority fixes goes to the enterprise customers first and rest of us will get cumulative updates, later as a service packs.
- What we install has a bug, backdoor or a trojan compromises security.
Its applicable to all OS.
If you enable SELinux on linux.
you can avoid most of the attacks.
But you require special skills to configure new service rules.
I hope I answered your query.
Please revert me back if you require more clarification.

Linux is and has always been a very secure operating system. Although it still can be attacked when compared to Windows, it much more secure.
