Depending on the positions, sometimes you need to evaluate your employees more often than just once a year. Sales, marketing and customer services employees should be evaluated more often as their work is directly related to customers and revenue generation. But how often can you do that (Weekly, monthly, .)
Quarterly is best so that expectations are continually shared and informal feedback should be provided to the employee throughout the year. One can identify what are employees strengths and weaknesses are and how they can improve.
This can be determined on the basis of Sales Graph and Customer complaints received, Pending Orders for delivery and the Capacity of your Warehouse/Manufacturing Unit/Powerful suppliers. The priod should not be too-long or too-short for the Sales Team provided time to time feed-back is received and there works a mechanism in this connect.
I would do a monthly review, and a detailed review each quarter...Team review doesn't need to be done only when there are crisis or issues. Regular reviews should be done with team members to identify any issues/risks they have that needs your attention, to seek ideas/suggestions to improve the working environment, to provide a constructive feedback of employee's performance and development goals..Regular reviews help employees to identify gaps and work towards in advancing their career path..

First i MUST know the tasks i given to my Team how much time it needs in order to have the know how for measure and evalute my team , as i will be the measurment of that , then by applying the concept of (( Accurate And on Timely Basis )).
As often as possible. I prefer weekly appraisal.
