What books had influenced your writing career the most?

Ahlam Mosteghanemi, Chaos os Senses.

Quite a few, actually. Charles Dickenns novels, Irving Stone's Lust for Life, Agony & Ecstasy are some of the books that impacted me in ways more than one.

I have no writing career as such. I can share how others typified my style of writing.

1. Najib Mahfouz's novels influenced my Arabic the most. Read them all.
2. Harry Mullisch's books influenced my Dutch.
3. English is more of a mix. Though I recently received the valuable comment from my most valued critic, my father, that I have something of Franz Kafka's & Fyodor Dostoyevsky's styles in my critical writing (both non-native English authors btw) . I considered such a far-fetched comparison a true compliment and one to follow-through with! And my thanks should go out to the translators, I guess.

Historical and novels about history 

Varied.  I read a lot of books - from inspirational, fiction, to non-fiction.  I even read journals and other stuff.  As of this writing, I'm reading Wish (by Jake Smith) and Sinner's Creed (by Scott Stapp).

Different books, especially African and Russian literatures.
