The true leader does not hesitate getting his hands dirty at times how boring the job might be. This is to demonstrate his involvement and support in what his team members are doing. I have experienced this number of times especially during long and boring conversions, implementations and upgrades.

All organisations, companies, groups and cultures need leaders.
Dependant on the culture involved depends the style of leadership involved. Generally speaking, one would expect to see a mix of styles being used on a standard day-to-day basis, with specific styles only being deployed when the situation calls for them.
But for a leader to remain in charge, that person has to be in a constant state of learning/development and have the ability to continually re-invent themselves.

I do think that leadership effectiveness is essential, especially in fast paced environment. Leadership effectiveness is measured by your staff performance, if the job is done on time and up to the standards. I also think that leadership effectiveness depends on situations and circumstances and I always say that my management/leadership style is mix of three- paternalistic/democratic and autocratic:-) Adjust the right one to situation.
There are some important things too which raise your effectiveness like:
* to create a nice, friendly working atmosphere
* recognise work well done
* say 'thanks' always
* make people feel they and their opinion are important for the business
So if you in management being a good leader is vital! Incompetent leadership cause just loss and harm for the business.
