Is loyalty to a company good or bad ? Is it good for the organisation ? Or Is it good for an employee ?

There are employees who remain in the organisation which they have joined and retire there. Their career progression has its limits. On the contrary , the company looks out for the "new blood" There are some professionals who change their job often and keep on moving. They carry what they have learnt from the company . Though they are the " Rolling Stones " they are expected to be the " value adds" of their new employers. Now the question is "is being loyal to a company detrimental?" I know I am starting a stir ! Let's hear from the experts and the affected !

As long as I am working for a company Loyalty to that company is absolute must. It is good for both organization and the employee's conscience.

There is a huge difference between loyalty to teh company, and accumulated learning and expertise you acquire from working with the company.

Loyalty to the company means , keeping the senstive information that can affect its poistion and compromise its reputation in the market with its compititors.

the accumulated learning is a natural process for any employee in any position in the comapny, happens with time spent in the job and in the organization from the daily activities and from the occaional problems and dilemmas faced occaionaly in the course of work, it's mainly the same in every company or maybe with few changes in the end it is not critical, and even if so not on a big scale.

Now, when the employee moves from her/his company to a competitor , the question is not their loyalty, rather it's an "Ethical" issue to reveal crtical inormation of the former employer. and in this case the new employer had mad a bad choice by hiring an unethical employee.

it has nothing to do with loyalty

loyalty is a key resource for both, company and employee. when loyalty is given and at the same time recognized, it is mutual beneficial.

Loyalty, even though not as common a trait in today's world as it was till some years ago, is an excellent trait to have. It works as a win-win solution for the employee and the company.

The company gets an employee who takes ownership and treats the company and its resources as his own, grows with the company and does everything in his capacity to contribute towards it's success. Here, the onus is on the company to realize the contribution and reward/motivate the employee accordingly so as to not lose such a prized possession.

The employee, on the other hand, wins the trust of the company and has much brighter chances of rising through the heirarchy as compared to any outsider/new employee, given he/she has the required skills-set. Also, staying longer with one company makes one more adept at internal processes and helps build internal/external contacts which surely contributes towrads making one for efficient in the output.

Loyalty is always a good aspect, that isn't something to doubt. Yet when it comes to business, an owner will want to make profit. Would his profit approach be get new cheaper employees for the tasks that are payed much more for older employees or stick with your experienced ones to benefit you more? It all goes back to the core strategy of the business. Which works best is a subject for another discussion. But an employee in either strategies is required to have loyalty as long as he's still an employee, work integrity should prohibit him from back stabbing his own company with another to get a few extra bucks. I'd say one should be aware of the strategy to start with. A loyality-strategy company will motivate its employees to stay with her, the other kind will simply won't mind if you take another opportunity better for you as they will be looking for a cheaper less-experienced one. So in this case, while being loyal, you could be considered moving forward with your set of experience to a higher position at a different company and they will recruit a less-experienced in your position. Mutual benefit in either strategies I'd say when done correctly and when both parties are aware and honest from the start.

For sure its good for both, from point that organization and company feel that they have a good manager, giving good salary, benefits, and they will be sure that the staff will not leave the job
