More over , evidence is everything in the professional world .Without evidence your work maybe incomplete ,unreliable and questionable .This is where metrics come in handy .When you propose something that is backed up with evidence i.e metrics, your proposal is more likely to find appeal and acceptance than unsupported proposals.

Self evaluation of the idea and leaving it open for others to evaluate for acceptance is the most effective way of doing it .
By gathering enough data and information in supporting your ideas. There will be many ways and approaches in completing a certain task, and it may vary from one idea to another. Weight the pros and cons of each idea and see what will be the best fit for completing the task, if in situations where you feel that your idea is better than theirs, the power of persuasion comes in, don't force them to acknowledge and agree with your idea, but try to convince them in a professional manner and emphasize on the pros of your idea. I usually schedule FGDs and brainstorming sessions to get an input from everyone, and I listen to all of their ideas, but most of the time we all contribute in forming an idea, it doesn't only come from one person in the team. One person might raise a good idea, then instead of criticizing it, people will tell him what are the cons and we will work together in managing those cons and disadvantages so we can be prepared for everything that may happen if the idea fails. Whenever I have an idea, I tell it to all of the people involved in order to make a consensus and to get feedback from them, if it is okay with them, then good, if not, I will ask them what improvements we can make to get the best out of that certain idea.

Also it depends on the situation and the importance of it and how far we should convince who ever involved in this situation with my opinion. other wise let him learn from his mistakes 'cos at least we've tried ;)

After listening to people's opinion and ideas carefully, we must analyze each idea mentioned and reply with proofs and concrete information. We can ask them questions like what is the reason for adopting this opinion???? if something scientific we can ask them about the studies they reviewed , the books they read. We can provide clear examples in daily life and in history maybe about people who experienced the same situation and adopted the same idea and how it appeared to be wrong.
I would try to enlarge their scope of info and knowledge about a certain issue. Some people for example are maybe convinced that cars from china are not good enough or will be easily. I would show them the number of Chinese cars sold around the world, the number of companies, the level of sales, the awards received by Chinese car companies. for example many people are convinced that smoking is not bad. I would explain to them the number of people dying each day because of cancer caused by smoking. If this does not work i would work on their emotions by saying that their families will be poor or depressed if he/she dies. If it did not work i will explain to him the suffering in hospitals in case he kept smoking. Actually the convincing process differs according to the person's age, education, gender, relation...
Since my target is to get someone to accept my opinion, Proving that I am always right does not bother me at all, Yet I will stand up for an idea that I believe in and which I need to promote.
When I persuade someone, first thing to do is to present my own point of view or opinion about that idea, It is very important that he/she must know everything about it and I can elaborate on it by sharing some positive and negative evidence to express and expound my opinion.
It is not wise to talk about the advantage of what I am trying to preach. I also need to site some opposing opinions and why I do not agree with him/her. Don’t forget also to listen actively. Always give him/her a chance to share his/her point of view. I need to learn and appreciate different opinions.
It depends upon the other person, how receptive s/he is. The people who have the vision, intelligence and leadership traits will be happy to consider and understand your view point. The final conclusion can be drawn based on mutual understanding and agreement.
I have learnt it thru experience that the top decision makers have lesser time to listen to you. In order to convey my point in a positive and acceptable manner, I would prepare an effective 'elevator pitch' and leave it to the other side to understand and get convinced.
This is a good question. When I express my views, part of me would really like people to become my followers and not just to accept my views :) , but honestly, I don't intend to convince others with my views, I just like to express my thoughts, just voice out my ideas for no specific reason.
