It depends on the case.

Yes I would if it was in the past. But I will first do a reference and any current criminal records against him.

People do change over the years so we can not judge them for their past.

Depends upon whether I am an employee or an owner of the business.

If H R Manager happens to be an employee  :

And this candidate is the only option he has to fill the vacancy, he should interview him and check his credentials with competent authorities. If found good, he should confide in his senior / owner of the company about candidate’s conviction in the past and recommend accordingly.

If H R Manager happens to be the owner of the business as well :

The candidate seems to be a promising one, he should check on his past conviction records with competent authorities. If he believes in the candidate and ready to take chances with him, he can provide the candidate some opportunity to earn from his business for few months rather than giving him an employment. Depending upon his judgment of the candidate after a good period of association, may take him on board.

If the person had admitted so courageously then I would consider but if the information was hidden by the candidate then I would prefer to decline. Hiding such information and not facilitating in mutual decision process reflects that the person has no repent for it and might do the same again.

Humanitarian considerations are always a must.  During Academic days for English Language, there was lesson in two chapters for Jean Val jean..Why this story was recommended for studies for the young mind?

Jean Valjean is a fictional character and the protagonist of Victor Hugo's1862 novel Les Misérables. Hugo depicts the character's19-year-long struggle to lead a normal life after serving a prison sentence for stealing bread to feed his sister's children during a time of economic depression and various attempts to escape from prison. Valjean is also known in the novel as Monsieur MadeleineUltime FaucheleventMonsieur Leblanc, and Urbain Fabre; the libretto mentions he is Prisoner24601. Unlike the others, Monsieur Leblanc is not an alias that Valjean uses but a nickname given to him by Marius because of his white hair.

Valjean and Police Inspector Javert, who repeatedly encounters Valjean and attempts to return him to prison, have become archetypes in literary culture. In the popular imagination, the character of Jean Valjean came to represent both Hugo himself and leftist sentiment. In1871, when Hugo was living in Brussels during the radical revolt known as the Paris Commune, anti-revolutionary mobs attacked his house and broke windows shouting "Down with Jean Valjean!.

We should allow everybody in the world for a positive change and I personally feel and hope it is possible if the inherent character in a person is good and optimistic.

Well, I think that the candidate has to be given the opportunity to work if he/she has the qualifications needed for the vacant job, but, as a manager I have to remind myself of what he/she has done in the past to not be trapped. Every body has the write to get a new chance!

Better have a Background Verification of his current Work details, How far he has changed from a Criminal to a Clean Person. If things were good we can give him an Opportunity, If it seems unbalancing better opt for another Candidate. But this totally depends upon the demand for the Position.

This is very easy to say "Yes".

My answer is no. I don't like to choose such kind of people for my team.

If I am owner then I will give him a chance but as a employee of a organisation, I have to follow rule and regulations of company.
