Ping is used to just check if internet connection is up or if a connection is there to a website a person is accessing.
Traceroute gives a more detail idea why we cannot conenct to a domain name or IP as it will show the path our internet connection will take to show us the content we are tryig to access. It cannot be fully trusted though
