I believe if you are a big size company having your own site is better,if you are a small size company selling through e commerce sites ,social networks or platforms it makes a better sense as you will save on the cost of launching your own site ,also e commerce sites and social networks have millions of users and you would benefit from their own users and heavy traffic,you would also have to compete with other users/sellers on these social networks or sites.
Another benefit to using existing platforms,social media sites is that once your grow and become well known you can direct users to your own site and that would help grow your site.
