The Best Employee retention strategy would be one where the organization focuses on it's Vision, Mission & Values ensuring that management lead by example in these foundational principles and reinforce these by ensuring each & every employee is part of the communication process. This will enable each employee to ensure that whatever their job function they understand how to do it, why they are doing it and the impact this has on their colleagues, peers, team, department, management and the organization as a whole.

The second step in this strategy is to ensure that every employee is treated with dignity & respect and is afforded the opportunity to participate in discussions on how best to do their jobs & how to work closely as a team when required. Management has to understand that unless employees feel that they are an important part of the organization and are valued for there efforts and input, they will lose their staff and normally these will be their best staff who can be head hunted or who will look to move once they have found better employment elsewhere.

People Development and Career paths are another area where management needs to include in their strategy to attract and maintain their employees. Clear Goals and practices need to be in place so that people can grow in confidence, knowledge & skills to reach their full potential with the organization.

The question management need to ask themselves is : How important are my staff to me and the organization?
