The only disadvantage is that may create a kind of jealousy, but the advantages are many including:

- rewarding good performers

- motivate employees to perform better

- strengthen copetition

This will create a disciplined atmosphere in a indirect way and improve the efficiency and productivity of the employees.

main disadvantage which I feel is the continuity process and appropriate selection criteria--poor performers feel a little bit dejected.

Advantages

  1. motivation it gives to the employees to work at their highest potential

  2. takes away the factor of favoritism in the workplace

  3. Give everyone a fair chance

 

Disadvantages

  1. Trying to motivate an individual can demotivate a group

  2. Create dissent amongst employees

  3. Public recognition breeds unhealthy internal competition
