The number one rule in teaching English and for your students to better learn it and understand it is to never speak or teach it in any other language but English! It is going to be hard for them at the beginning but that's the idea for them to force themselves to think about it, and trust me, they are going to appreciate it.

I think it would be perfectly acceptable to offer "explanations" in their own tongue. Pictures and drawings are pointless as they will look at them but THINK in Arabic I'm not sure that you could get a workable correlation between the two! Wafa is on the right lines but I would still go with explanations in Arabic and once they have grasped that, then there is no excuse not to continue in English.

It is always better to teach a language using it as an instruction medium. Thus, it is better, and ideal practice, to teach English vocabulary to Arab students using English language alongside pictures and drawing for demonstration, explanation.
It is better to learn them the new vocab. using some pictures and drawings. Also, you can make them use the new vocab in sentences. They can express about themselves with some simple sentences using the new vocab
Well, isn't it fun to teach vocabulary to kids? Once they have set sail into this new realm, they develop every day, every week and there you go with students who can express themselves eloquently after several months and years... And vocabulary is the essence of this learning process. My preference is to make use of as many techniques as available (from visuals, to association, collocation, etc.). The essence of the discussion is to make the newly encountered words meaningful for the kids. They have to relate them to their own lives. Using the kids in the teaching process makes the whole thing much more enjoyable as peer teaching is our ultimate goal in language teaching, anyway...

Use of mother tongue will absolutely interfere with pronunciation. If it's teaching English it's English and no other comparison or explanation use role play if they've got to understand dramatize. That's why I advocate a multi sensory approach to learning and varying of teaching methods.
There is no perfect method, but using visuals is better than using our L1.
