If you are in need of a tool that can collect. process, analysis and report internet data for the purpose of optimizing web usage, then there is no other tool which is better than Google Analytics.
Every marketing campaign on the Internet needs to be tracked in order to make it successful, and it is possible using this analytics tool. Most importantly it is free of cost.
Yes. As per my experience, yes it is... You can compare it with other top competitors like Omniture, Web Trends, and WebTrekk etc.
Omniture is a powerful analytics tool that can track any kind of events & tags. However, it’s really expensive and cannot afford by small businesses and startups.
WebTrend has a good support by providing robust level of data collection and other metrics including media tracking (video). This tool capture it so well that you can track video views of a page based on the page URL. It provides special level of tracking for mobile apps, SharePoint analytics, social analytics etc. Still, it needs subscription and not a friendly UI to view or pull down reports.
WebTrekk is a tool that claims a lot of options such as TV spot conversation, behaviour & conversion of these users across the website etc. However, I couldn’t find much insight from this tool as they claim. May be due to my limited knowledge. Again, the UI is too complex to pull the data from this tool. Google Analytics is free, supports everything (A-Z) on this planet. Its fast & user friendly UI are credits. You can customize tracking codes to any level and can track anything. Due to integration of Google Tag Manager, this tool is helping everyone to implement all kinds of tags so easily including social widget trackers, scroll effect, video views, drop offs, enhanced ecommerce for shopping sites, customized funnels to track user journey etc. Mobile app analytics and tracking non-web properties are another powerful invention to analytics world.
Drawbacks:
It has data limits. It cannot hit not more than10 million hits a month.
Paid subscription is not guaranteeing many facilities compared to free version.
Yes, Google Analytics is by far the best in measuring many KPIs regarding your website traffic. It is most accurate in measuring traffic volume, sources, landing pages, etc. It also gives you good statistics about your traffic growth, as well visitor behavior/flow on your website.
What Google Analytics also provides but not best at is analytics related to A/B testing and heat maps. Google Analytics would still be the best 'Free' tool that does that, but other paid tools are more focused in these areas.
