Yes it is, but like any mindset, it has to start at the top and it is the responsibility of the main stakeholder to present arguments for this change in mindset by actions rather than just words. As a rule, Management is more comfortable in putting money on Sales effort, face to face selling and huge on ground sales units, mainly because they are exposed to this route. To change the mindset, they need to be shown results that marketing efforts bring in like increase in profitability, loyalty, awareness and long term relationships etc. Unless management sees results it will be difficult for them to change their mindset. Marketing is Sales, keeping profits in mind, unless we show profits, our marketing efforts will go to waste.
Marketing is a change of mind set, because presenting an existing/ new product and it's features to the existing/ new/ potential customers showing the comparative advantages with the substitute products or competitors a marketer can change of mind set of a potential buyer. for example if we watch video presentations of Steve Jobs of Apple, we can see that he used to change mind set of audience/customers by presenting new features, size, colours and competitive advantages with others.
