Bar charts are more advisable than any other formats and it is very easy to understand too.

As we talk about common format then the response should be the bar charts  

But in my opinion also control charts if were applied they make a sence !

The most common format for Performance Reports widely used are bar charts (also called Gantt Charts), S-curves, histograms and tables etc

Control charts measures significance and variations of standard measurement (6 sigma). Pareto measuring level of deffects and its frequency (extended bar chart for3 dimensions) close to Control charts.

Responsibility assignment give details of the project phases and responsibility assignment to each member of the team.

Performance can be measured on bar charts if series of activities has some ranks or pre-set priorities to be achieved in a particular time-frame. For example if certain activity is finished in a particular (t0) completed in (t1 or t2) it will be ranked accordingly. Therefore for each activity you measure its performance comparing its ranks in a specific time-frame. Bar charts are most commonly comprise of2 dimensions/variables.
