I believe that the more terrestrial communication methods (Low-Latency) advance in covering the world, the less reliance there will be on satellite. It is there to cover a need and once that need ceases to exist they will stop using it.

At the moment i get access to on-demand television along with the ability for audio and video conferencing communication with the four corners of the globe through my local ISP, why would i need satellite unless i wanted to communicate extra-terrestrially? However, if i was living in a remote location or did not have a reliable ISP then yes, i would be seriously looking into satellite. If i was a business in those areas, i would immediately work on addressing the market need, but i would also be watching the improvements in local telecommunications infrastructure closely and have an exit plan ready.

The issue, for me at least, is the latency of communication (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Satellite_Internet_access#Signal_latency). I agree with Mr. Ahmad with Optical Satellite Communication taking place of the traditional satellite communication mediums (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Free-space_optical_communication). This should allow more data and less latency.

I see the the satellite communication future in a bright way as optical satellite with huge amount of data will take place of current satellite communication system.
