Yes, I too do endorse this notion, but apart from7 P's of marketing mix their are other factors too which helps in successful positioning of your product in the market, such as, SWOT analysis, PEST analysis, porters five forces, etc. !!!
The objective of positioning should be position itself in customers and prospect mind.
MARKETING has changed its course and became WARKETING so marketing mix (7Ps) alone is not sufficient enough to create positioning. In this cut throat competitive warket alternative approach should be adopted like compass model and STP analysis.

W- WANTS
S- SOCIAL(CULTURAL)
E- EDUCATION(CUSTOMER EDUCATION)
