Sales funnel is a sales management tool which helps you track and visualize how the sales process is meeting your objectives. Very nice tool to use.
A sales funnel is a visualization of the selling process for an organization. A sales funnel is used to take the number of prospects your business has and quantify them during each stage of the sales process. In doing so, it provides you with a model to predict the final number of sales prospects you have who will actually become future customers.
However, it also offers more than just this. By analyzing the manner in which your numbers alter over time, potential problems can be spotted early on in the pipeline and be corrected as needed.

And bring them to encourage them to take advantage of a particular commodity

A Sales Funnel is an path or process where the lead moves from being 'Mere Aware' about the product or services offered to being actual committed to buy the product or service.
The Sales Funnel process ideally contains3 stages:-
1)Lead
2)Prospects
3)Customers
I would like to mention the above process with an Example: Let's consider a company selling Pet Food.
1) Lead: is someone who becomes aware of your company or someone who you decide to pursue for a sale, even if they don’t know about your company yet. They may be just liker of animals in general or May be already having an pet at home (Prospective Lead)
2) Prospect: prospect is someone who has had some kind of contact with your company and they are still interested. They may be buying similar type of products for their pet & may be aware of our company's existence
3) Customer's: These are the set of people who not only are aware of the companies products but are buying the products. Thus, customers could be either:-
A) Regular Customer's (Loyal Consumers)
B) Occasional Customer's (Those who are not specific & may buy companies products from time to time)

I see the sales funnel as the visual presentation of the sales process which reveals the prospects in every stage of the sales process from spreading awareness till contracting going through lead generation, prospecting and negotiating. At the beginning (top of the funnel) you will see a large number of (possible) customers with different level of engagement going through and being channeled to the strongest leads until you get the real customers to whom you really sell.
