Job enrichment means the vertical expansion of the function in the sense that it increases the employee's ability to plan and execute the duties of the work so that the whole of the individual activities and increase range of motion and independence at work and increases the permeability of the evaluation and decision-making, and sometimes the correction with respect to the conduct of work. Job enrichment is to increase the depth of functionality and increasing the duties and functions of planning and control usually lead by supervisors is an attempt to increase job satisfaction increase their content. Job enrichment means redesigning jobs a way that increases employee responsibility and achievement and a sense of sophistication and attention to the performance of the job done well.

Job enlargement means increasing the scope of a job through extending the range of its job duties and responsibilities generally within the same level and periphery. Job enlargement involves combining various activities at the same level in the organization and adding them to the existing job. It is also called the horizontal expansion of job activities. This contradicts the principles of specialisation and the division of labour whereby work is divided into small units, each of which is performed repetitively by an individual worker and the responsibilities are always clear. Some motivational theories suggest that the boredom and alienation caused by the division of labour can actually cause efficiency to fall. Thus, job enlargement seeks to motivate workers through reversing the process of specialisation. A typical approach might be to replace assembly lines with modular work; instead of an employee repeating the same step on each product, they perform several tasks on a single item. In order for employees to be provided with Job Enlargement they will need to be retrained in new fields to understand how each field works.

Job enlargement is for 'horizontal job expansion. If one need to include more responsibility and others as mentioned it should be JOB ENRICHMENT.

Whenever the scope is widened it is enrichment. So I will go with 'Job enrichment'. Job enrichment usually requires a different skill set. For example asking a production manager to look after purchasing department too.

Job enlargement happens when more responsibility within same scope. If a person is responsible for cleaning a room, for some reason he is asked to clean another room on regular basis is called job enlargement.
