Key Stage4

At Key Stage4 students are offered the opportunity to study ICT or Computing at GCSE.

Computing GCSE – OCR – J275

Unit1 – Computer Systems and Programming -40% of GCSEAssessed by1 hour30 minute examination paper set and marked by OCR.

In this unit, students study computer hardware including the processor, binary logic, memory and communication and networks.

Unit2- Practical Investigation controlled assessment30% of GCSEMarked internally and externally moderated by OCR

Students carry out an investigation into web programming with Javascript and CSS. Students will undertake a practical research task and then write a report on their findings.

Unit3 – Programming Project controlled assessment30% of GCSEMarked internally and externally moderated by OCRIn this unit students will be solving a problem by designing, coding and testing a solution using Python. This task will be set by the exam board.

The Edexcel GCSE

Unit1, Living in a Digital World –40%. Examination

In this unit students explore how digital technology impacts on the lives of individuals, organisations and society.

They learn about current and emerging digital technologies and the issues raised by their use in a range of contexts (learning and earning, leisure, shopping and money management, health and wellbeing and on the move).

They develop awareness of the risks that are inherent in using ICT and the features of safe, secure and responsible practice.

Unit2, Using Digital Tools –60%. Controlled assessment.

Students broaden and enhance their ICT skills and capability. They work with a range of digital tools and techniques to produce effective ICT solutions in a range of contexts. They learn to reflect critically on their own and others’ use of ICT and to adopt safe, secure and responsible practice.
