absolutely yes, as an experience salesperson, you are trained not only on how to sell a product but you should have learned to sell yourself, idont mean yourself as your body, customers will come to you because they know their needs and wants and you know you can give it to them, as an experienced salesperson you should know how to approach and motivate customers to buy your products and how to persuade them that they need your product indeed-

Not necessarily,

May or may not depending on a lot of factors.

According to Peter F Drucker people tend to successes when there is a high congruence between their knowledge, expertise and what they do.

External factors have their role also and the success may be sustainable or just ephemeral.

A good salesman of computers and printers might not succeed selling insurance.

There are some sales jobs which give further and stronger training like the insurance and advertising and sales people form this sector tend to succeed in many other sales functions but a salesman of animal feed may not be a good salesman of body care items.

The answer in summary is that a successful salesman in a particular line may or may not be successful in another line.

Thanks

Tariq

Dear All,

In responses to your question, the response is absolutely NO ! In today's world the client is looking for compatible answer to his queries with technical know how. You might have noticed sales persons in electronic show rooms who can tell you the inches and basic information like a parrot. For any further technical question asked by the client, they start running seeking help of their seniors which does not leave a good impact on the client. In India, there is a saying that you should do whatever is your expertise and trying to do something else, can be disastrous. Of course, unless the person first plans to take proper diploma in venturing into other products.

Yes, without a doubt.  I sold testing services for a commercial testing laboratory; i.e. water mostly.

I didn't know how to operate the machines or how to do the tests, but with honesty in my presentation and followup, I closed many sales.  I've learned the client knows what they want, so I asked them what they were looking for in a commercial testing lab, and if they have other services I could provide them with. Are they satisfied with other vendors, no matter the service provided?
