Formatting for background color

 

  1. Select cells A2 to D2.
  2. Choose Format > Cells from the menu to open the Format Cells dialog box.

 

With the Format Cells dialog box open:

For help on these steps, refer to the image above.

 

  1. Click on the Patterns Tab (circled in red in the image above).
  2. Select the light purple color (or another that you prefer) from the color option.

Microsoft Excel's Conditional Formatting command can change background color for specific cells based on their values with following steps:

1. Select the range that you will work with;

2. Click the Home > Conditional Formatting > New Rule…

3. In the New Formatting Rule dialog box, select and highlight the Format only cells that contains item in the Select a Rule Type: box.

4. In the Format Only Cells with section, specify the conditions that you need.

·         In the first drop down box, select the Cell Value;

·         In the second drop down box, select the between;

·         In the third and fourth box, enter the filter conditions, such as80,100.

 

5. Click the Format button.

6. In the Format Cells dialog box, set the background color under Fill tab.

 

7. Click OK button to save the settings. Then the specific cells with value between80 and100 are filled with the new background color in the selection.

In Excel20xx you can set different formatting even with icons formatting from Home toolbar tab.

there are many way to cahnge background cell
1- selsct the cell then go to toolbar and then choose coler tool and choos your color2use condision format
3- select cell then right click then propertis and goto coler option and then choose your color

You can use Conditional formatting from home tab in excel2007 &2010.
Select the cell you are willing to change background, go to conditional formatting a popup window will appear select last option of "Use formula............." and write you logic/formula in this area.
once the formula will show result of true or false you cell background will change according to your answer.

In Excel2010 you can use "Conditional Formating" ( to be found in the "Home" ribbon).
For example, if you want to fill the cell with red if the value falls below zero: Create a "New Rule" for cell A11.
Choose: format only cells that contain.......2.
Select: Cell value - less than -03.
Format: Fill with red In the2010 version of Excel much more subtle ways of conditional formatting can be defined by this tool.
