Be demonstrator if necessary, be kind and understandable, make the people understand that they are working for growth of self, motivate and appreciate their achievements, communicate their goals with planning, executing plans, prioritise work, monitor their execution, correct wherever necessary, punish where ever there is wrong doing, show direction for people's interest. Meet as frequently as possible and communicate, talk, listen their problems in person or in team. Process, people development and progress of people are important. Decision, discipline and dedication of team are to monitored. As my friend told about SWAT, is very important criteria to develop team and should have good atmosphere to work and ensure that they do their best for the team , will go on and on with lots of points as the time comes we as leaders have to change and have flexibility for the development of team, we do the role of mentor,coach, planner, sometime as friend and nd few times punisher.

I suggest the best way is follow the SWOT Analysis to build the team strength.. STRENGTHS, WEAKNESS, OPPORTUNITIES and THREATS should be properly analyzed to lead the team.

You should work closely with the team, be part of the team even though you are the Leader / Manager, gaining trust / respect and appreciation through working / assisting team members. This goes both ways and for sure will give you a great team and some excellent results, in fact your team will always give everything if you treat them with respect at all times.
We are all the same at the end of the day, we do different roles but together we can achieve anything. Leaders / Managers are nothing without having good people around them, never forget to show appreciation and mean what you say.
You will also have certain people take the above as a weakness, a good Leader / Manager will deal with this in a proper and professional manner.
The best way to lead a team is that understand the importance of team at that time when they want, encourage him at right time , involve into the team understand the difficulties of team members and make polite and strict at correct time.
