Maslow's Hierarchy of Needs theory stated that people are BEST motivated to work when they can contribute and use their skills. This was contrary to the popular belief that people are MOST motivated to work for money or security.

He created a pyramid model showing the5 motivation levels -1) Physiological Needs (food, water shelter) - Lowest level2) Safety Needs3) Social needs4) Esteem Needs5) Self-Actualization needs - Highest level

A person's motivation level cannot ascend to the next level until needs of the below level are satisfied

Motivation Theory which suggests five interdependent levels of basic human needs (motivators) that must be satisfied in a strict sequence starting with the lowest level. physiological needs for survival (to stay alive and reproduce) and security (to feel safe) are the most fundamental and most pressing needs.

Human need is a physical or psychological deficiency that a person feels compelled to satisfy.-described five levels of human needs that affect behavior.-Progression Principle-a need at any level becomes activated only after the next-lower level need is satisfied.-deficit principle- a satisfied need doesn't motivate behavior; people act to satisfy needs for which a satisfaction "deficit" exists.-only at the highest level, self actualization, do both the deficit and progression principles cease to exist.
