Taking the initiative to meet regularly with your manager will give you instant credibility.
Developing rapport and trust with those in power to make changes, and who can promote your career, are vital.
Respect and trust is gained by taking accountability, especially in the bad times.
In the workplace, consistency in your behavior and productivity are the keys to becoming more credible and valuable.
Keep your word : Put simply, do what you say you are going to do.
Deliver on your promises and keep true to the expectations you set for yourself, and that which others are depending on.
This is one of the best ways to prove your worth and show that you have a strong work ethic.
Take ownership for the good and the bad : Taking ownership of accomplishments and victories at work are easier and more gratifying than taking ownership when deadlines cannot be met or when sales figures aren't reaching target.
However, this is the time to step-up and be honest and own the situation Document and present your achievements: Date, Your role, The outcomes/results, The impact your outcomes had on the organization/department, Next steps (if any)Keeping a chronological log of all your accomplishments, big and small is essential for informing and reminding your manager of your worth.
Many people struggle with tooting their own horn, but you need to break down that barrier and remind your boss why he/she hired you in the first place, and how essential you are to the organization.

Here is a list of things that made me respect and trust the employees that worked for me:1.
If they promise something they keep their promise or they have a damn good reason for not being able to fulfill the promise.2.
They are transparent and candid in their interactions with me.
The more straight forward a person is the more I trusted them.3.
They don't complain all the time.
If they complain about something I usually did my best to fix the issue they have a problem with.
The worst thing you can do is constantly bug your direct boss about a trivial matter.4.
They weren't afraid of getting their hands dirty and staying late for the good of the project.
I don't mind that some people say our official hours are9 to5 but this doesn't necessarily apply in a crisis.
The more reliable and dependable a person is in a crisis the more I respected then and gave them my trust.5.
They didn't blame someone else for something that was their fault.
If you Man up to your mistakes then your manager might be mad at you for a bit but ultimately respect that you arent' a coward or someone that throws the blame.6.
You are resourceful.
Meaning that if there is a problem and you are tenacious and stubborn enough to track it until you find a solution for it then you are golden!7.
You respect the people you work with and they in turn respect you.
Nothing worse than an employee who causes problems for his manager by constantly being nasty or mean to his co-workers.
Nothing will get you fired faster than that.8.
Knowing when to stay quiet.
Their is a time to talk and their is a time to share your ideas.
No manager likes someone that just sits there and does not contribute during a project, but if all you are contributing is gibberish then its better to stay quiet.9.
Don't close your phone or ignore calls from work if you are under a deadline for a big project.
That's another easy way of letting the manager that you don't care about the company.
But also if the manager keeps calling you after1 or2 am then by all means its better for you to find another job cause your manager is way out of bounds.10.
If you take initiatives during your down time and inform your manager of what you are planning.
I've had some people go on tangents of their own and waste company time and resources because they didn't talk to be before or a little after they started an initiative.
Having ideas is great...
but if you are working on a side project when everyone else is doing their best to finish an important job (thereby not helping them) then you are useless to your manager.11.
Don't be late for work.12.
Don't spend too much time on your mobile phone.13.
Don't waste company resources (use the internet connection to download movies or songs or whatever).
These are a few of the things that you have to keep in mind about gaining your managers trust.
I could possibly write a book about this subject.
Anyway I hope this helps.
