I believe that audio books is the best software for learning English during this decade . Now i can read and listen to the correct pronunciation from a native narrator " speaker " at the same time .
It depends entirely on what you and the students want to achieve in class. Students don't really want to listen to other people speaking about topics that they have no interest in. In my experience, it is much better to engage the students with active interaction. let them read and repeat words etc.
I also let them write their answers on the white board, it helps for shyness and introverted students
As for pronunciation; unless you have one particular standardized intonation and dialect on the audio tapes. different dialects can be very confusing for English learners. they already have to cope with the varied spelling of the same sound in English.
