When is it deemed necessary to oppose or ignore standards and choose short term solutions? In what context would either choice overlap the other?

When ever your organizationn is going to declining business or out of market in future.

Sometimes it is necessary to choose short-term solutions or "quck fixes", but you must be careful what kind of effect they have on the overall business environment and how hard they oppose or break a standard. Another thing is that the short-term solutions must be only for incidental cases and not become habits that you use whenever the heat is high. 

Only if you are already going down under.
