التكنولوجيا الخضراء هي ببساطة أي تكنولوجيا فعالة ومحافظة على البيئة.
وإن لم تكن واثقاً مما تعنيه، فإن أحد الأمثلة على ذلك هو الطابعة التي تستخدم طاقة وحبراً أقل عند الطباعة، وتعطي في الوقت نفسه النتائج التي تتطلع إليها.
هذه هي التكنولوجيا الخضراء ـ إنها التكنولوجيا الذكية والمحافظة على البيئة! والتكنولوجيا الخضراء تساهم فى في الحد من انبعاثات الكربون والاحتباس الحراري.

Green IT starts with manufacturers producing environmentally friendly products and encouraging IT departments to consider more friendly options like virtualization, power management and proper recycling habits.
The government has also recently proposed new compliance regulations which would work towards certifying data centers as green.
Some criteria includes using low-emission building materials, recycling, using alternative energy technologies, and other green technologies.

The reality is Green IT or IT Sustainability refers to the study and practice of using computers and IT resources in a more efficient and environmentally responsible way. Computers and computing eat up a lot of natural resources, from the raw materials needed to manufacture them, the power used to run them, and the problems of disposing them at end of life.

In a nutshell, Green IT or IT Sustainability is composed of two things:

1. Minimising the negative impact of information technology use on the environment

2. Using information technology to help solve environmental issues

but would be so many if dug deep to individual component
