Generally, Probation Period for any company is the period for three months period, where employee should performed as per requirement and satisfaction of the employer. If the employee proved him or herself as an active and suitable for the position, for which is he hired.  As per satisfaction of employer, a letter of confirmation should be issued after his probationary period.

For me, it is a probation period for a new employee to learn, to commit mistakes, to explore and of course be responsible for all his/her actions. I always believe in learning curve. I will take accountability for whatever errors there may be and not blame the new employee.

If an employee is having difficulty within probation it only means you need to review your training roadmap, or follow-ups and real-time assistance, feedback and coaching were not appropriately given. Perhaps, the manager is busy staring, glaring at his computer looking busy but doing nothing.

I wouldn't mind using SMART Goals or STAR/GROW methods while the new employee is on probation as it will give me an opportunity as the manager to review and amend previous action plans not working.

the probationary employment periods—also sometimes known as trial periods—can be quite useful to both the employer and the employee. When hiring new employees, many employers use probationary employment periods to ascertain whether the new workers will be able to handle the duties and challenges associated with their new job before making the job permanent. This period comes in handy to the employee in getting to know the work culture of the organisation that will help him or her shape performance to business expectations.

Yes, its a crucial period for employers as well as employees. For employers, the employee is new, the company/organization don't know employee attitude, capacity, skills, previous record (CV) shows, but may be possible that all the required field that an employee filled in the CV will be copy/cut past and do not know any thing.

Secondly, the employee is not familiar with organization / company TORS, working condition, attitude and capacity of the staff already working in the organization/company is the most important factor, mattered for the employees.

Therefore, it is important for both parties.

Probation is the last question of the candidate's interview and employer observes the performance of employee to find the answer of those questions which can't be best explained by words rather by actions and employee at the same time is giving proof of his words at the time of interview through his continuing performance

Hello,

To me and in my experiences, a probation period is both for the employer and employee. This period allows the employer to see how they are learning and if they are a fit for the company and the position. It also allows the employee to learn the job details.
