Customer service as a function, is exactly the same with the same rules, goals and directions. It is true that issues like kind of business, nature of customers, culture and environment may affect the behavior of customer service department.
There is a difference between the customers who buy essentials and the customers who buy something that they do not need, so the way of dealing with each kind of customers change due to the product they want to buy. But in the end they must be satisfied so they will stay loyal, and the customer service is the thing that will differ a company from another and will lead to this satisfaction.
Techniques will be the same but details will be different according to the nature of activity practised by the organisation.
Customer Service is a function. Behavior is different depending on your business sector. For example in retails clothing store sales person cannot give full fledged service because customer footfall is more and sales person is less.Same way if u not provide the proper details about jewels customer is will run without purchase. Customer Service is a function which works under strong common sense.
