Hi - well, senior employees working since inception undoubtedly are integaral part of company, coz they have seen hard times with companies growth, but they should not be treated as limitations, company has to keep with the changing scenario, new graduates freshers creates more enthusiastic environment with new ideas, plans, , so they should be welcomed too.....

Hi Cajetan,   We all have come across someone who has been employed in their Company since the Inception.
Not all such people are limitation factors to their Company's success and growth.
An Employees Tenure is not a limitation to a Company's Growth, unless the Employees are closed minded and don't embrace that Positive changes can lead to the Company's Progress.
Progress can be achieved by moving with the times and changing accordingly.

It depends on the employer's needs.
If an employee is 'outdated' in skills (ie IT, programming, fashion):- Employer might want to replace them- or maybe give them the opportunity to upgrade themselves or maybe give them free training

Thanks Guys, your views and suggestions have helped a lot.
In order to summarize, Yes, it is definitely an asset to have older employees stay with us, and the challenge for any top management is to ensure and observe that these employees lead by example and assist in the growth of the organization.
A few yardsticks marked is to ensure the employees continuously harness a upward learning curve to ensure they are able to lead their colleagues and mentor them, bring positive energy within the team and be able to appraise and be appraised.
Thank you once again.

It depends on their personality and acceptance to change; if they are well updated, open minded and ready to accept changes; they will never be a burden or limitation to growth Businesses are changing and so do the senior management mindsets; their inputs are major since they witnessed the good and bad times; but in some cases they might refuse to move on due to unjustified reasons

They can be...
its all about your attitude towards the business and how they want to take it forward.
They can become barriers to growth and success; but as they formed the company they can be its most valuable asset- experience and knowledge.

If you give proper training acording to the growth of the company they will be never a burden.
This is my personal feeling.
It will also depend on the type of company as well.

The answer no one will give you (except me) and the most pragmatic one is that some of them are a burden...
but not in the way that normal people see it.
The fact is that as a person's tenure with a company extends their salaries get higher and higher and sometimes their benefits and medical needs are more than the average employee.
I heard this from one of my former employers and I was surprised at the way he approached the situation, I knew that one day he was going to look at me not as an asset to the company with deep history and vaulable experience, rather for someone who's only concern was the almight dollar (astaghfir Allah) the only thing that they would think about is the Return on Investment (the ROI) regarding that person.
The moment the employer cannot squeeze as much as they possibly can from that employee then they become a burden to them...
and a disposable asset (oxymoron for ya).
