Before limitation the cross section of the ongoing cable of 40A MCCB need to know the following :
1- Load level connected
2- System Voltage
3-Cable length
4- Type of the Conductor Copper or Aluminum with PVC Insulation
MCCB/ Molded Case Circuit Breaker is normally used for the voltage 3-phase 380Volt and 220Volt line to Neutral. MCCB has a thremal release for the over current protection & Magnetic release for the Short Circuit Protection. Convenient Cross Section of the cable for 40A MCCB is 4-6 MM Square.
10mm Sq in Copper conductor
16mm sq in Aluminum conductor
10mm Sq in Copper conductor
16mm sq in Aluminum cxonductor
If Length is less then 50 meter
16mm sq. copper conductor.
Although, there are plenty of requirements before deciding a 'final conductor size' but i would like to share with you something simple i.e rule of thumb.or a 'three phase system' divide the circuit breaker size with '4' and use the 'next standard cable size' for installation. In this case "40/4=10". So i would recommend you to choose 10 mm24/Core Cu. conductor cable if distance is short upto 100-150 feet otherwise use next bigger size (16 mm2)
It's depends in many factors
1- type of load
2- distance between DB & and the load
3- type of conductor
4- type of installation
5- type of isolation
6-future expansion
6 square millimeter is the correct size
cross section area of the cable
(10) mm2
% Cable with size less than 10mm2 with calculate suitable VD
10mm sq of copper conductor
It is not a unique answer question. The answer depends on type of load (critical loads need more protectoin). Moreover in UAE it is generally 10 sq.mm cable for a 40A, TP, MCCB.
