Can you make your career as a Print Journalist by only writing stories of human interest ?

It seems like the more news reports you read on global affairs, the darker the world seems. Would writing human interest feature stories which touch the readers' emotions establish you as a Journalist?

It's definitely a great way to establish a career in print.
A big part of journalism is showing how various global affairs affect human lives so if you have the talent of writing great human interest pieces then you're ahead of the game.
Having said that, I think it's easier to write a poor human interest piece than a hard news story.
So really what makes your career depends on your strengths.
You'll see hard news stories that include powerful quotes and great detail and that's worth a lot more than you might think.
Of course there are also plenty of other ways to excel in print, like opinion pieces, investigative pieces, etc.
So no, I don't think human interest stories are not the only way.

It is true that stories of human interest touch the readers most as they play on emotions; however, journalists should also be able to write about politics or the economy that are both reasons behind many of today's social sufferings.

This question doesn't just need experience; a fair amount of introspection is also required here.

Practically speaking through personal experience, i believe the only thing that matters in a journalists career are:

1. Are enough people reading the articles/reports?

2. Are many of them liking it?

3. Do my stories/reports push them to respond in any way? If yes, how many responses do my story get on an average?

4. What are the critics saying?

If one scroes above average on these points, one would already be a good journalist.

In today's fast paced world, there is very little time to compare.

People are receptive to all kinds of journalistic writings, provided it is written honestly and t th facts.

So yes, you can make a career as a journalist by only writing stories of human interest. In fact, that's a very good approach towards journalism...

I personally know2 journalists who do just this and have kept their jobs successfuly for over10 years writing the same beat...and they have massive followng too!

The journalists' primary concern is news and public affairs.  But they can also present their material in a manner that interests the readers (Feature stories).  He or she can also go into investigative reporting. Human interest stories can be written by anybody, not necessarily a jourmalist.  I think a journalist who rather prefers to write only human interest stories is not a full-pledge journalist.  I mean, for what purpose did he or she took a degree in Journalism when he/she is not ready to work in the news and public affairs media?

Yes, you can make a career by only writing human interest stories.

The news that you are referring to fall under the beat along the lines of politics, current affairs, political affairs and alike. Those feature stories require less color, more timely facts and information from sources.

The human interest story usually falls under the beat of culture, society and its counterparts. They require more color. When I say color, I mean a more descriptive scene of the environment; the source which is usually the subject of the story and the incident being told.

When your stories have more color in your feature stories you have use a lot of ways to describe the feeling and feel of the surrounding, which is intended to bring emotion to the story and raise the emotional quotient of the feature story.

I hope I was able to answer your question.
