Consider your relationship with your management as an investment relationship.
As long as you complete your assigned duties in a perfect way, so that was expected by your management before they hired you.
If you are doing an extra work, you should firstly get sure that extra work will not affect your assigned duties performance.
Then, If this extra work required extra working hours more than the official working time, you should take extra money.
Finally, If this extra work included in your official working time, you should wait your appreciation in a form of increasing in salary or position at the annual evaluation.
Take it as investment, which free of emotional appreciation. And, of course with respect to main appreciation like dignity, dealing in a professional way, respect......etc.
In spite of that, there are many managers who knows the power of THANK YOU, and they can motivate their employees and providing them with a positive innovative environment.

You are right100 % but i think appreciation MUST be from both sides and i am sure we all agree on one thing that your work always talking on you instead of any managers , Always Keep your spirit up regardless any one surround you , always turst yourself , never look back , as much work you finishe as long experince you gain as long more opprotunities you can have.

Work 'Smart' and Work 'hard'. As long as you think you are contributing to the cause of the company, you should feel better from inside. It is a lot better not given credit when its due than taking someone else's credit due to him. There is a big difference. Work with commitment, zeal, passion and integrity. If you think its time to move, move quitely thanking everybody as it has given you an opportunity.Never give a bad publicity to your past and present employers. This is maturity and mark of a genuine professional.
