Which should be preferred for teaching in non-English speaking countries; native language or English?

This is an important debatable issue in non-English speaking countries. Some prefer English as medium of instruction yet others are in favor of native language. How would you like to contribute towards resolving this controversy?

Both should be equally important.  The goal of any mixed language class should be to learn how both are used and spoken.  My opinion only, when other goals come into the mix this will change.   Research at my level has revealed, need based depending on the audience.  Must be able to adapt to your educational environment, as well as individual student needs. Active engagement to increase motivation and desire has yielded best results in my experiences.

i believe if native language is preferred it has far more good and long term outcomes. Some of which are the students tomorrows citizens will not feel dependent but they have a feeling of independence but with that one cannot ignore English is todays buisness language so it should be treated and taught none less than your ones native language

i completely agree with the comment given by the lady above. teach English subjects in English is always proven to be beneficial

moreover every subject has its own particular language and should be taught in that language. in that case tutor will be more effective and students will be more benefited.

From my experience for decades, using English in the English classrooms is much more beneficial for teachers and students, whatever the age is.

I believe it is common knowledge that people understand well when they study and taught, using their native languages as an instructional medium. Thus a native language is favoured!

Teaching English as a foreign language (TEFL) refers to teaching English to students whose first language is not English. TEFL can occur in the student's own country, either within the state school system, or privately, e.g., in an after-hours language school or with a tutor. TEFL can also take place in an English-speaking immigrant country, for people who have moved (either temporarily for school or work, or permanently). TEFL teachers may be native or non-native speakers of English. Other acronyms for TEFL are TESL 'Teaching English as a Second Language', TESOL 'Teaching English as a Second or Other Language', and ESL 'English as a Second Language'.
