Why is a digital network preferred over an analogue one?

Digital communication is preferred mainly over analogue because packet switching which is used by digital network are more flexible to handle , easy to manipulate and to integrate for newer technologies compared to circuit switching of analog networks.

The main difference between the two is that you can reconstruct the digital signal even after the path/line losses. This ensures better quality signal. in addition the digital cmmunication can occure in different packet based protocols whereas analogue communication is based on technologies such as TDMA or FDMA.
