Which is better, General MBA or MBA with specialization?

I am a commerce graduate and would like to complete MBA degree. Should I go with General MBA or Specialized MBA? which has more scope in UAE market. Please suggest.

Nice question. According to my experience as a fresh graduated MBA student, I think that the MBA with a specialization is a great tool because it helps to have a focused vision on particular area such as HR, Finance, marketing and so on. However, if the program of the MBA is poor or in other words, the other subjects of the MBA program are not well prepared by the university, the student will face difficulties to have a good understanding of the other subjects and areas of the MBA.

Base on my personal experience, I finished my MBA program last month and my specialization was in HR by choosing two elective subjects which cover this area and the topic of my thesis was related to the HR management as well. In the same time I was very interested on the other subjects such as Marketing and Strategic Management which enjoyed.

In the end, I believe that the benefit of the MBA program is based on the student's will and objectives. In addition,  he can focus on a specific specialization but his curiosity will help him to master other subjects as well.

Its always better to go for a specialized course in MBA such that when you apply for a particular job position in a company you are very well sorted and clear to choose which line you want or are opting for. This will help you to grow as a person holistically career wise. Also, when you present your resume to someone, they will be sure on which particular job profile your looking for. So, on the whole it's always good to choose what you are most comfortable and convenient with. I can tell this to you  based on my personal experience.

Good question. For an MBA I think its better to go general if you want broad knowledge of different aspects of business. On the other hand an MBA specialization gives you the tools in that particular field AND attracts interest from those seeking to hire specialists. But I think both are viewed the same. Since both can simply  put only MBA in their signature.

MBA with specialization and some more certificates in your specialized field to get good job and to have better grip on the topic.

1.    MBA program is a generalized program focusing on Accounting, Finance, Marketing, Operations, Human Resources and Integrating course of Strategic Management.

2.    Most of the colleges offer two to four elective courses in the final year. Unless written in the transcript/ certificate, no need to mention the specialization in bracket. So, you can keep your opportunity open for all areas. You may choose the electives as per your interest and job opportunity.

3.    You will be specialized, when you are at job for three years in any field of finance or marketing or HR or operations. Still, you have the opportunity to move around in other areas as MBA is generalized program for business.
