Long range planning is just that - planning far ahead.  Various stately homes in the UK, built hundreds of years ago, have oak paneling.   In many cases the owner of the house planted oak trees (which take many decades to reach maturity and live for hundreds of years) in order to provide a supply of oak for when the panels need to be replaced, which was expected to occur in a timeframe consistent with the life of an oak tree.   This is long term planning but it isn't strategic.

Strategic planning isn't necessarily particularly long term:  you can have a strategic plan which covers only a few weeks.

When thinking about what strategy is, it's often helpful to return to the military origin of the term.

Tactics - how you conduct an engagement (battle)

Strategy - how you link engagements
