The main principles for user interface design are:
1. The user interface should be easy to use and user friendly as much as possible so that the users feel comfortable using that paricualr interface and get things done quickly.
2. The user interface should be easily extendible so in future any change can be made easily and with less work.
3. The interface will be supported by most devices so most of the users can use it without needing them to install particular softwares.

User Friendly is the most important point.
with my respect to all, but you should always consider the end user is a dumb person...(With respect)
who won't know how to intercat with your design, so your design somehow should lead the end user what to do next.
