I did it many time in my professional life.
We were having over4000 LPG distributors across the country. These distributors needs to send the weekly report in floppy drive to their respective bottling plants. In this process the cost of floopy drive, manpower cost for processing these flopy drive, regualr phone call to distributor for followup on the weekly report etc was involved.
During that time, we had developed a standard accounting package for the LPG distributor with builtin faclity to transfer the weekly report to secured web server. On this web server, we have provided the MIS report for bottling plant manager and head officer personals. This way we could smoothen the process and saved the cost to company.
In another example, we had40 bottling plants,40 valve manufacturer,110 LPG cylinder manufacturer and56 regulator manufacturer. Based on the vendor rating the product order was finalized to these Cylinder, valve and regulator manufactuer then these product were shipped by them to various bottling plants. Earlier this linkage was done on manual basis but we have implemented the least cost model softwre to arrive on optimum linkage. This way we have saved the transportation cost.
