What is the difference between HIV and AIDS? Are they the same thing?

HIV is the virus which causes AIDS

The human immunodeficiency virus (HIV) that causes (AIDS) acquired immunodeficiency syndrome.

HIV is Human immunodeficiency virus which causes AIDS, i-e. Acquired Immunodeficiency syndrome

HIV stands for human immunity virus .. so it the name of the disease causer . but AIDS stands for ACQUIRED IMMUNE DEFICIENCY SYNDROME  which is he name of the disease it self .
