i have been hired in this company as a sales engineer, its a small business starting to grow, i am supposed to carry out the work of Marketing and sales departments.
I am lost and don know How exactly can i start?
First in doing business you must study the following. The needs of the people in a certain location.
I've numbered these for clarity, but should do them all more or less simultaneously. Spend at least two weeks just learning, and resist pressure to do anything until you know what you mght usefully do. Do not be a headless chicken running around aimlessly.
1. Understand what your company can and can't make.
2. Create a customer database. Probably best to buy some off the shelf CRM (customer relationshiop management) software
3. Understand who your customers are
4. Identify your best customers.
5. Identify what these best customers have in common
6. Identify your target growth market (new sector? new geographical area?)
7. Use all that information to identify potential new customers
8. Read up on marketing and sales
9. Create a marketing and sales funnel
. Now you can start!
Know the technical description of the products to be sold, know the company capability & competency (order processing, cashflow, services, after sales services, ect.) & know the real requirement of the available market to be penetrated.
Then go to visit customers as much as possible. You can not well understanding the sales knowledge from any books/references/literature. The sales will arise after you visited many & many of customers. Be a good listener (than speaker) to understand the real requirement of your customers. Doing sales activities with passion & heart, I believe you will reach your great achievement into the future.
You must study market of this products in the factories.
You must understand the technical specifications of the business products.
