While performing a Dielectric Test for the main cirvuit of a 13.8Kv medium voltage switchgear, what is the maximum allowed HV value for the test?

Dielectric test for 13.8 KV system require to carry out with maximum 28.6 KV.( ( 13.8 * 2) + 1)

2* Rated Voltage +1 KV done at Factory, while in substations it should be  Root 3 times of Rated ie 57kV

 For 33 KV system  high pot voltage will be ( 33X2)+1 = 67 KV for New Machine. But for 3 year old Machine will be arround 49 KV. But for oll machine( More than 5 Years) it will be arround 37 KV. But for 3 years/ old Machine it should not be repeated, otherwise may lead insulation failure

The maximum high voltage required is  28.6kv

 2X (Operating Voltage) + 1000 V.

Dialectical Test is also known as a high voltage /potential test. Its totally depend on the designed basic insulation of buses. As per the  IEC 60950, it should be  2X (Operating Voltage) + 1000 V.
