I have actually been involved in coaching from a very young age, whether it was coaching the unders cricket team or unders cricketers up. until

However in the past five years i was responsible for a large team based at the head office in London and regional head quarters in Oxford. During this period i had to coached my team and my three apprentices and used both coaching with compassion and coaching with compliance.

The results were significantly better where i used compassionate style of coaching compare to the compliance. There was a member of staff in my team in Oxford who was on the final warning for various reasons and the senior management decided to put an end to it by going down the compliance route.

However i stepped in and requested6 months to change/turn things around. By using coaching with compassion techniques i managed to get this member of staff in my team on board. I set short  and long term goals to achieve, by showing care, understanding and willingness to can do attitude with this member of staff i started seeing great results and in the end this staff member turned things around hugely. Not only this, after months this member of staff got a promotion and now manages the regional head quarter in Oxford. The results showed sometime compassion is much better then compliance.

The other three good examples are my three apprentices , who not only excelled in their roles but moved on to permanent roles withing the organisation and one won the award for best apprentice of the year.

By holding regular1:1s and setting goals. At the same time creating a framework to support them and making them understands the key to success, was only achieved by being compassionate, empowering them and making them understand how important it is to be true to yourself. My last apprentice who recently won the best apprentice of the year award (I also won the best manager award Ealing Council Network Awards) said in her winning speech my manager is like a life coach and my success is down to the energy and the style of coaching.

Having managed several teams and coaching staff over8 years i feel compassion will always win over compliance.
