CBO sustainability depends largely upon the framing of its purpose.  If stakeholders have been convened for the purpose of completing a specific project, even if a project end date is not discussed, they will subconsciously impose a date or event that will signal the end of their involvement.  Conversely, if a CBO is founded with the idea that there will always be room for improvement in the community, there is a much higher likelihood that community members' commitment will evolve with the CBO focus.

Of course, other factors are important, such as building a reputation of reliability and integrity, and the ability to support continual administrative activities (e.g. tracking progress, marketing the organization's work).  However, staff or resident commitment to addressing the ever-evolving needs of the community is of utmost importance.

First of all let us to ask why we establish the (CBOs) shortly to follow all  the aspects of their community development and to be as back up when all the outside organization phase out. CBOs are not sustain because sometimes they are not enough capable , and in most cases they are focusing only on the current project or program when completed.

in the other hand because whose  idea is it community based initiative or it is the requirement of the implementing organization  and donors.

Establishing CBOs are very serouse and main part of the community development projects and it is beginning from assessment when we learn community. Just in this part we need to find out the key and main groups, persons, structures whose community believe and come to them for recomendations, some of are the good specialists, some actives, some simply elders and so on, namely this part of the people needs to be the members (in gender manner) this is the first(1).

How to keep these people? because all depends from them, trainings, exposure visits to the successfull CBOs, construction office for them (they need to have their own place), a peace of land (they need to grow some products for their families, maitaining building of the office and other internal expenditures)...

Also activities that  are planned for the community (IGAs, Social Projects, infrastructure) they need to be implemented through the CBOs and managing and controling will be their main responsibility.
