How important is the strategic planning to any community manager?

A community manager builds, grows, and manages communities, performing Community management, often around a brand or cause. Therefore, will highly require strategic planning as this will allow the process of defining its strategy & direction & making decisions on allocating its resources to pursue this strategy. It may also extend to control mechanisms for guiding the implementation of the strategy.
