A deaerator is a device that is widely used for the removal of oxygen and other dissolved gases from the feedwater to steam-generating boiler. In particular, dissolved oxygen in boiler feedwaters will cause serious corrosion damage in steam systems by attaching to the walls of metal piping and other metallic equipment and forming oxides (rust). The main function of the deaerators are:
1. To remove dissolved oxygen from the boiler feed water by heating the water thru upcoming low pressure steam.
2. To remove other dissolved gases from the boiler feed water by chemical cleaning system known as low pressure dosing system.
The main purpose of removal of dissolved oxygen & dissolved gases is to protect the internal surfaces of boiler tubes from corrosion.
Deaerator tank are used to remove oxygen in water by the use of heat. As carbon dioxide is removed,the increase in PH also gives an indication of deaerator efficiency.
Apart from providing necessary NPSH to Boiler Feed pump in most designs, the main function of deaerator is to remove remove oxygen and other gases from thee feedwater before it enters steam cycle.
