Dear Chehou Oussoumanou,
The first thing to consider here is why make a strategy, and how is it useful for maintaining a healthy business.
Resource, labour and time have become extremely expensive these days.
Hence it ihas become even more necessary to channel all three in the correct direction.
Before we decide to launch a product it is crucial to ask question such as:
Who is my targetted audience
What is his/her brand personality
What is the price he/she is ready to pay
How can we reach out to the target audience
How can we beat competition and secure a greater market share.
Innovation is the beginning of a potentional business, but research is the backbone of any good business. Once we know who the target market is and what kind of a product we need it becomes very important to realise which channels of advertising and distribution would help give the best results.
Strategic marketing
Strategis sales
Strategic product placement
And there's no turning back!
Strategy, as well as a handful of other marketing terms) is borrowed from classical warfare. While the term itself dates back to the days as old as war, its use in today's context varies little.
In warfare, in order to launch a successful campaign (a concerted assault involving different "departments" (i.e. cavalry, infantry, van, elite, etc.), the commander will first gather intelligence. This let's him/her know a) the terrain, b) available supplies, c) the enemy and its capabilites and d) the state of his forces. Each factor will greatly contribute or hamper the success of his endeavor. For example, a huge army requires an equally immense supply of food, shelter, and weapons; similarly a great army can fall to a much smaller one if the latter has an environmental advantage (the movie300, the Mongolian invasion of Japan).
In the marketing sense, terrain is your market landscape, your demographic studies, your pie charts. Your available supplies and the state of your forces are your workforce, your ad agency, your product and all the resources available to you and your brand. Your enemy can be two things depending on your objective -- it could either be your competition (literally your brand's enemy), or your audience (your "target" market).
Once the necessary intelligence or research has been gathered, only then can the commander formulate a plan of attack for his campaign. This plan, also refered to as tactics can be simple and direct or layered with complexities. The sole objective of which (in marketing and in war) is to get your enemy to do what you want it to, without them realizing they are doing it. (I can't and won't go into the different strategies of war right now. I suggest reading The Art of War, or researching history's famous battles from the ancient times until the Vietnam war.)So your strategy, your tactic, your plan is basically your educated attempt to successfully reach your goal. And by educated, I refer to research, studying your consumer, your competitor, your market landscape, and a consulting your own knowledge-base and experience as well as your intuition.
I hope that helps. =)
Thank you for addressing your question to me. In my opinion Strategy is the structured method that an organization evolves to achieve its long term & short term goals. Strategy is made to strengthen the weakness and succeed over competition. All the segments of a Strategy as mentioned by you are the components of complete strategic plan of an organization to shape the vision.I do not want to go into theoretical definitions of each component as some of the experts have already described in their answers to your questions. I will be much pleased to apply my experience to assist you with a product / services related issue that you may have which needs to be addressed and then we identify which component of the strategy must be applied to achieve desired results.
